The
Flying W Diamond Ranch consists of approximately 15,000 acres of some of the
most scenic and historic country in New Mexico; the steep ridges and ponderosa
pines of the Capitan and Tucson Mountain ranges frame the ranch from the east
and the north with rolling hills of pinon
filling the far reaching horizon. The ranch runs from Smokey Bear’s
birthplace to his resting place in downtown Capitan, affording the variety of
landscape only captured in the hearts and minds of renowned artists and
photographers. These images are the subject of many famous New Mexican works
of art, hung on the walls of museums and homes throughout the world. The
legends of Billy the Kid crisscrossing this ranch during the Lincoln County
War still casts the shadow of a horse and rider roaming the place under
moonlit summer nights.
The
added touch of pride in this ranch and culture is best seen in both the cattle
production and the wildlife management commitment of the Tinsley family. Our
wildlife consultant, Jack McCormick, has coordinated a wildlife management
program on the ranch to provide a balance between those who hunt and that
which is hunted. This ranch has been in the Tinsley family for over four and a
half decades, and our commitment to improved water systems and brush control
has yielded some of the best grazing and wildlife habitats
in
the state. These responsibilities are all undertaken with the mind that a
little fun ought to be had as well. The proximity to the bustling community of
Ruidoso provides the options that so many guests of the Flying W Diamond
enjoy; including snow skiing, horse racing or visits to the Mescalero Indian
Reservation for a game of chance or a round of golf at a nationally ranked
course.
As
you traverse the pastures of Flying W Diamond, let the view of the majestic
Sierra Blanca mountain range in the distance impress upon you the heart of
southern New Mexico-an immense stretch of landscape so important to
understanding the term “heaven on earth.”
The
Tinsley family welcomes you to a world of cowboys, history, great hunting and
fun times.
